Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have opened up about their marriage, the actress' health and their latest movie together, "By The Sea," in a rare joint interview on "The Today Show" with Tom Brokaw.
During the interview, Jolie revealed that she learned about possibly having signs of early-stage ovarian cancer during the film's editing process, to which she decided to have her ovaries and fallopian tubes taken out.
"I was out in France, and Angie called me and I got straight on a plane to return. Seeing my wife have to be her strongest and knowing that it's the scariest news is terribly moving. And not being there is a horrible feeling," Pitt recalled, according to USA Today.
The actress also underwent a mastectomy in 2013, and was treated by the same doctor who treated her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, who died in 2007 at the age of 56 after an eight-year-battle with ovarian cancer.
Jolie also revealed that her latest film together with her husband was inspired by the bereavement she went through after her mother's death.
"We can't say what the whole film is about, but a lot of the film was when I went to visit my mum in the hospital, when she found out she had cancer the first time," Jolie explained, according to Digital Spy. "There was a woman down the hall who was wailing. I later found out it was a young woman who had not had children yet, and that put everything into perspective."
"By The Sea" will be the first time the couple appeared together in a film since "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," in 2005. The film will be released in U.S. theaters on December 13.
