’50 Shades of Grey’ Movie Cast: Charlie Hunnam’s Acting Career Could Take a Hit if Movie Fails in Box Office?

Did Charlie Hunnam put his career on the line to star in "Fifty Shades of Grey"? It was rumored that Hunnam was hesitant to take the role as the kinky billionaire reportedly because he wasn't sure about starring in such a big movie and he wanted to know who would star opposite him as Anastasia Steele (the role went to Dakota Johnson).

There was another rumor that the "Sons of Anarchy" star trying to get out of his contract and was starting to regret signing on as Christian Grey. E.L. James shut the rumors down by tweeting a picture of Hunnam's forearm tattoo that his character, Jax Teller, wears on the show.

According to Celebrity Dirty Laundry, Hunnam has a lot riding on the success of the movie. If the movie does good it would instantly push him into stardom, he would suddenly become an A-list celebrity and movie offers would come rolling in.

However, if the movie bombs Hunnam could face a huge blow to his acting career. Celebrity Dirty Laundry believes the actor could take the fall if the movie does do bad because executives might believe "he didn't entice enough women to come and see the film."

Following James' Labor Day announcement of the lead roles there was an immediate boycott. Fans demanded the roles be recast to Matt Bomer and Alexis Bledel, both of whom were fan-favorites.

Johnson's career would also take a blow if the movie is a dud but not like Hunnam's since she isn't as well known as the 33-year-old actor. Hunnam has been acting for a long time but this would be his first attempt at a big role.

His agents probably thought his role in "Pacific Rim" would have pushed him into stardom but the movie struggled in the box office.

"Hunnam has a better chance of becoming a franchise star with 'Fifty Shades of Grey,'" Forbes reports. "James has sold more than 70 million copies of her books. If Universal can harness that fan enthusiasm, the movie should be a hit."

Unfortunately, the fan backlash over the casting decision has some fans threatening to boycott the movie.

Do you think Charlie Hunnam's career will suffer if the movie flops in the box office?
