Texas judge Julie Kocurek is in a local hospital recovering from a gunshot assault just outside her home in Austin's Tarrytown neighborhood at around 11:15 p.m. ET, Friday.
Travis County District Judge Kocurek was said to have been in stable condition Saturday morning, and her wounds are not life threatening, Austin police Lt. Lee Rogers said, according to CNN.
Police have no leads yet and cannot identify if the shooting was related to her work. They are currently interviewing witnesses.
"At this point we don't have a lot of information about the suspect," said Austin Police Cmdr. Mark Spangler, Fox News reported.
Judge Kocurek was appointed to the 390th District court in Travis County in 1999 by then-Gov. George Bush. She is a former prosecutor, and a former Republican who got elected to a state district judgeship in a democrat-leaning county. She eventually switches parties in 2006.
"Our hearts go out to Judge Kocurek and her family. We wish her a speedy recovery," the Texas Democratic Party tweeted Saturday, according to ABC News.
Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick's office said that he was praying for Kocurek's fast recovery and calls out to Austin police to apprehend whoever is responsible for the shooting.
