New 12-Inch MacBook Expected For Second of Third Quarter of 2014, What Will Be New?

Apple is expected to launch the next batch of iPads, the new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks. Despite the buzz surrounding what will be new with Apple this year, many already have their sights set on next year's big announcements from the tech company and, if recent rumors are to be believed, some interesting things are in the pipeline.

New reports indicate that Apple is working on a few changes to its lineup of MacBooks for 2014. In a research note shared by 9to5Mac, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, which has a successful track record of predicting Apple innovations and announcements, predicts that Apple will release a 12-inch Retina MacBook sometime in either the second or third quarter of 2014.

While the device is expected to sport an entirely new design, it isn't being labeled a MacBook Air or a MacBook Pro. Therefore, it's unclear as of right now if the new laptop is going to represent an entirely new category for Apple laptops or if it will simply be an upgrade to an existing model.

Aside from the MacBook rumor, Ming-Chi Kuo's report also suggests that the company might release a low-cost iMac model around the same time as the new laptop. This would also likely come with the sixth generation iPad, expected to sport a 9.7-inch display with 30-40 percent higher PPI (pixels-per-inch) than the current Retina iPad, according to Mashable.

It's important to note that all of these release products and dates are simply rumors at this point. Apple has not confirmed or denied any of these rumors. As stated, Ming-Chi Kuo has a decent track record for making long-range Apple predictions so, although it isn't 100 percent confirmed, users would do well to bet on this timeline for the upcoming products from the company.
