New York, Boston, St. Louis, Washington D.C. and other cities in the U.S. have given a boost to security in light of the deadly gun and bomb attacks in and around Paris, which killed 120 people.
The purpose of beefing up the security in these cities is more of a precautionary measure rather than in preparation against any particular threats.
The New York Police Department said that officers from its Counterterrorism Response Command and other special units have been positioned in zones that are often visited by many tourists as well as the French Consulate in Manhattan.
Police are also now on amplified alert at all of the bridges, tunnels and rail facilities of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and lower Manhattan's World Trade Center, boosting patrols and inspection of bags, buses and trains, according to Reuters.
Law enforcement and transportation agencies outside of New York are also on high alert, with the U.S. Capitol Police in Washington enhancing the patrols around the Capitol compound.
Meanwhile, Boston's police department said it has positioned extra resources and are closely coordinating with federal authorities. The Massachusetts State Police say they took "several actions" such as boosting security around the city's State House.
The police department over in St. Louis said that it added an additional level of security for the soccer qualifying match between the U.S. and St. Vincent for the World Cup Friday night, the Daily Mail reported.
At least 120 were killed and about 200 people were injured when unidentified attackers opened fire and set off bombs in a stadium and a theater Friday evening, HNGN previously reported.
