The Oklahoma Sooners travel to McLane Stadium to face the undefeated Baylor Bears in crucial Big 12 matchup. The Sooners have won four straight games and have been rolling ever since their upset loss to Texas on Oct. 10. Baylor is undefeated on the season and avoided a scare against Kansas State last Thursday, winning by just seven points.
Baylor's offense scores points quickly, but it will need freshman quarterback Jarrett Stidham to step in his second start. The Bears lost their starting quarterback Seth Russell to a neck injury and will need Stidham to play well if they wish to contend for a Big 12 title.
Head coach Art Briles will look to make his quarterback comfortable Saturday night, as he will need Stidham to play mistake-free football. The Bears freshman quarterback played extremely well in his first start of the seaso,n throwing over 400 yards and three touchdowns.
Stidham will look to wide receiver Corey Coleman, as he is a Heisman hopeful and arguably the best player at his position in all of college football. Baylor's star wide receiver has 1,178 receiving yards this season and has scored 20 touchdowns in just eight games. Despite a change at quarterback last week, Coleman still put up big numbers with 216 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
While Baylor is known for their high-powered offense, it's the Sooners who have been blowing out opponents for the past couple weeks. Since their loss to the Longhorns, Oklahoma has averaged 58 points per game. Quarterback Baker Mayfield has been one of the hottest quarterbacks in college football as of recently, and he has thrown 14 touchdowns to just one interception in their last four games.
Sooners Head coach Bob Stoops will look to put the ball in his playmakers hands Saturday, as they will likely need to score points to keep pace with Baylor. Sophomore running back Samaje Perine is averaging above eight yards per carry in the last three games and has scored seven touchdowns during that period. Perine and wide receiver Sterling Shepard are the big playmakers for the Sooners offense, and Stoops will surely have them involved early.
This game is crucial for both teams, and a chance at a Big 12 title is likely on the line. Both teams still have TCU and Oklahoma State on their schedule, and a loss for the Sooners today will probably end any chance of them winning a Big 12 title. Baylor sits at sixth in the College Football Playoff poll prior to Saturday's game, and whoever wins this game should make a jump in the polls this upcoming week.
