After releasing a teaser clip yesterday, Adele graced the world with the full version of her new song "When We Were Young," Rolling Stone reported. The British musical powerhouse performed the beautiful new ballad live during the taping for her interview with "60 Minutes Australia."
The video opens with a profile shot of the songstress getting a last-minute hair and makeup touch-up. Her stylist gently brushes stray hairs back into her retro '60s blonde bouffant 'do. She jokes and laughs with her band as they set up in the room at the Church Studios in London.
She takes her place in front of the microphone stand in the center of the room, dressed in an all-black ensemble, an ankle-length velvet skirt and a matching fitted black blazer with a top that features lace trim detail at the neckline.
She takes command of the microphone as she sings the opening lines in the first verse with lyrics full of longing for a former lover.
"You look like a movie / You sound like a song / My God, this reminds me / of when we were young," she sings in the chorus with her signature voice, drenched in emotion. In the second verse, she extends "young" with smooth control and transition.
The song was co-written by Tobias Jesso Jr., as previously reported by HNGN. Adele explained that they worked on the song together on composer Phillip Glass' piano, which helped give the song a 1970s feel.
After finishing her performance of "When We Were Young," Adele places the microphone back in its stand and smiles.
"I've never done that in my life," she says, then laughs as she grabs the microphone again with a flourish. "It's a whole new me."
