More than 52,000 pounds of buffalo-style chicken wings from Tyson Foods, Inc. are being recalled. The products were possibly contaminated, according to Fox News.
The cooked hot chicken wings were made on Oct. 24 and 25 and had been shipped to various retail centers nationwide. They were reportedly "off odor."
"The problem was discovered when Tyson Foods Inc. received consumer complaints about the product being 'off-odor,'" the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced in a news release Tuesday, adding that some consumers experienced "mild illness" after eating the chicken wings. "After these consumer complaints, Tysons Food Inc. brought this to the attention of FSIS."
The specific product being recalled is "Tyson Any'tizers Fully Cooked Hot Wings" coated with "a flavorful hot, tangy sauce" and packed in 28-oz bags. The products bear the use by/sell by dates of Oct. 24, 2016 and Oct. 25, 2015, with packaging dates 2975PBF0508-23/2985PBF0500-01 and case codes 2975PBF0508-23/2985PBF0500-01.
FSIS classifies the recall as a Class II recall, which means "there is a remote probability of adverse health consequences from the use of the product."
"Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase," the agency said.
According to FSIS, there are no confirmed reports so far of people suffering from adverse reactions after consuming the products. The agency advised that those who experience any adverse reaction from eating the chicken wings should immediately see their doctor.
The voluntary recall was issued because "the product does not meet Tyson Foods quality standards," Tyson Foods said in a news release.
To verify if a chicken wing product you've purchased is being recalled, consumers can check the inside of the USDA mark of inspection or the back of the bag, right above the heating instructions, for the establishment number. The recalled product comes with the establishment number P-13456.
