With a number of affordable and high-end third-party docks for the company's first-ever smartwatch saturating the market, Apple has unveiled the official dock for the Apple Watch. Costing $79 and able to support the Apple Watch flat and in Nightstand mode, the dock is the company's elegant solution for charging the device on a desk or a bedside table, according to CNET.
The dock is quite a simple, seemingly made of plastic with the usual magnetic charging puck in the center. Depending on the user's preference, the charging puck can be positioned flat or upright. In a lot of ways, the dock looks a lot like a cushion for the watch.
What makes the official Apple Watch dock different from third-party devices is that it does not rely on the watch's cable. Rather, there is a Lightning port at the back of the dock, where a lightning cable can be attached. Though the device does not ship with a USB power adaptor, it does come with a generous length of cable, measuring two meters, reports Tech Crunch.
Though $79 is quite steep for such a simple device, it does make sense for users of the Apple Watch. After all, if a person cares about simple, beautiful things like the Apple Watch, then it is completely understandable for that person to get a simple, beautiful stand for the device.
The official Apple Watch dock is available in Apple Stores right now.
