Oliver Hudson Reconnects With Estranged Dad Bill Hudson: 'We Might Be Mending Something'

It's been five months since Kate Hudson's brother, Oliver Hudson, posted his infamous "Happy Abandonment Day" photo of himself and Kate, along with their biological dad, Bill Hudson. However, after some verbal exchanges, Bill and Olivier could be on the track to having a decent relationship.

The 39-year-old actor revealed in an interview Tuesday on "Watch What Happens Live" that he is now speaking to his dad and explained why he doesn't regret posting his Father's Day post.

"I'll tell you why... It actually started a dialogue that I haven't talked to my father in twelve years," the actor told host Andy Cohen. "My sort of dark, crazy sense of humor, I posted this happy abandonment day thing which everyone went crazy about and I was just trying to be funny."

"At the end of the day, it was a good thing. We're communicating now. I had an amazing three-day conversation with him and we're texting and we're trying to see each other. We might be mending."

Cohen thanked Oliver for sharing the story and he suggested sister Kate might get "in on the action." Oliver just responded, "We'll see."

Bill was married to Goldie Hawn from 1976 to 1980; however, their children were raised by their mom and her longtime partner Kurt Russell after her divorce.

Initially, after Oliver's June post, Bill quickly retaliated during an interview with the Daily Mail, saying that he essentially distanced himself from his children and no longer recognized them as his own.

"I say to them now, 'I set you free,'" Bill told the Daily Mail. "I had five birth children [including three from another relationship], but I now consider myself a father of three. I no longer recognize Oliver and Kate as my own. I would ask them to stop using the Hudson name. They are no longer a part of my life. Oliver's Instagram post was a malicious, vicious, premeditated attack. He is dead to me now. As is Kate. I am mourning their loss even though they are still walking this earth."
