One Canadian mining firm claims to have found the worlds second largest diamond, according to CNN Money. The Lucara Diamond Corporation found an 1,111-carat stone at the company's Karowe mine in north-central Botswana.
"This historic diamond recovery puts Lucara and the Karowe mine amongst a select number of truly exceptional diamond producers," William Lamb, CEO of the Lucara Diamond Corp, said. "The significance of the recovery of a gem-quality stone larger than 1,000 carats, the largest for more than a century and the continued recovery of high-quality stones from the south lobe, cannot be overstated."
It is a type 2a diamond, measuring "65 millimeters by 56mm by 40mm," Business Insider reported.
Not only that, but the small mining firm has also discovered two other large diamonds as well, with one measuring in at 374 carats and the other at 813 carats, making the latter the sixth largest diamond on record.
Diamonds that measure over 100 carats are a rarity, which may be why the firm is not so keen on selling the diamonds just yet, according to CBC News.
"I'm already getting emails saying, 'Is the stone for sale?'" Lamb said. "We're not desperate to sell it."
