‘Hey Arnold’ TV Movie: Nickelodeon Rebooting Classic Nicktoon

Nickelodeon is digging into its '90s past again to reboot the classic Nicktoon series, "Hey Arnold," for a new TV movie, according to Variety.

The children's network is developing a TV movie based on the cartoon series that ran between 1996 and 2004 about a fourth-grade boy with a football-shaped head who lived with his grandparents in a boarding house. The TV movie would pick up where the original series ended and address the long unanswered question about what happened to Arnold's missing parents.

In addition to its eight years on TV, Nickelodeon also released "Hey Arnold! The Movie" in theaters in 2002.

Nickelodeon's revival of its classic shows won't stop with "Hey Arnold." Hit shows like "Ren & Stimpy," "Rocko's Modern Life" and "The Wild Thornberrys" could also see a reboot.

"Kids who grew up on these characters are now of the age that they are having kids and families themselves," Russell Hicks, president, content development and production, for Nickelodeon Group, told Variety. "Our library has come to fruition and it's time for it to start coming back to life."

The kids' outlet has already reintroduced these shows in recent years on its sister network, TeenNick, as part of its "The '90s Are All That" programming block, which was relaunched as "The Splat" in October.

Nickelodeon has not released a premiere date for the "Hey Arnold" TV movie.
