The saga of "clock kid" Ahmed Mohamed continues. Recent reports indicate that Mohamed and his family plan to issue a $15 million lawsuit against Irving, Texas and school officials.
Police arrested Mohamed in September for presenting a clock teachers mistook for a bomb, as reported by HNGN.
Now, letters from Mohamed's attorneys spell out a demand for $10 million from the city of Irving, $5 million from the Irving School District, as well as an apology. The city and school district have 60 days to comply, otherwise the attorneys will file a formal lawsuit against them.
"Ahmed never threatened anyone, never caused harm to anyone, and never intended to," one of the letters states, according to Daily News.
According to Mohamed's attorneys, as many as seven adults forced the 14-year-old to sign a confession. Mohamed's case brought sympathy from several onlookers, including President Barack Obama, who invited Mohamed to attend a science event at the White House.
Mohamed's family took up offers to move to the State of Qatar, located near the Arabian Peninsula, citing that their son's reputation is "permanently scarred."
"Everyone in the country and around the world believes this has been a wonderful experience for Ahmed's family, and in some ways, it has been. But now they are settled in Qatar, they have realized they are tremendously traumatized," stated family friend Anthony Bond, according to the Washington Post.
Mohamed's arrest led to media coverage and several television appearances. However the attention has destroyed their lives and forced them out of country, his attorneys said, according to Time.
