The new iPad 5 and the iPad Mini 2 could be getting new smart covers. Apple will be holding a event today (Oct. 22) where they are expected to unveil the new iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2. There has been many rumors surrounding the new tablets. They are expected to get hardware upgrades, new processors and better cameras.
According to The Telegraph, there has also been talk that either the iPad 5 or the iPad Mini 2 could be getting newly designed smart covers. The website reports that Apple has a history of hinting at what could be unveiled at their events.
When the invitation went out for the launch of the iPhone 4S, where Siri was introduced, the tagline was "Let's talk iPhone," and when the iPad 3 was launched the tagline was "We have something you really need to see. And touch."
So what was the tagline for today's event? "We still have a lot to cover." That immediately led people to believe that a new smart cover would also be unveiled at the event. According to rumors the iPad 5 will be thinner and lighter than previous versions which means the previous-generation iPad cover, which comes in a variety of colors and flips into a stand, won't fit the latest model.
"Launching a new range of covers could give Apple an opportunity to branch out from its current design, which is clever but relatively old now," the website writes. "It might choose to mimic the Samsung's S View cover, which has a small window to allow you to see important information on the screen, even when the cover is on."
There are other rumors going around about what the new covers will look like. For example, Apple could unveil something similar to Microsoft's cover for their Surface tablet, which works as a screen protector and a full keyboard.
The Telegraph points out that the clue in the invitation could also hint that the iPad case itself could come in a variety of bright colors like the iPhone 5c.
