Prayers for Keith Urban's father! In a bittersweet moment while touring his new exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame titled "Keith Urban So Far...," the 48-year-old "Little Bit of "Everything" singer revealed that his father, Robert Urban, has been placed in hospice care.
"He's probably only got a few weeks, if that. I've just been dealing with that the last couple of days," the country star told The Tennessean.
"This has all come at a very strange time where it's typical of a career that has extreme highs and extreme lows all often at the exact same time. So [the exhibit] is bittersweet a little bit because [my dad] is the catalyst for all of this. My dad is the catalyst for me living in America."
Urban, who was surrounded in a room filled the with his accomplishments, the memorabilia he has collected throughout the years, his wife, actress Nicole Kidman, and important people who had an impact on his career, shared that his dad thought it was important that he "dressed like a performer." Urban credits his dad, who is also a huge country music fan, for inspiring his love for country music.
The Grammy Award winner even shared a story about the time his father encouraged him to buy a Don Williams album, just because he knew it would be good.
"I remember saying to my dad, 'Oh, what's the single off this album?'" Urban recalled. "And he said, 'I don't know. I haven't heard anything off it.' And I said, 'Well, how do you know it's going to be good?' And he said, 'It's Don Williams.' And it hit me in such a way that I thought, 'Oh, I'd love to make records where people know it's going to be solid and they go out and get it.' So I want to thank them for starting me on this journey."
Urban paid tribute to his father publicly on his Facebook and Instagram accounts in February, posting a photo of the two, with the caption, "Being a Dad gives me a WHOLE new love and appreciation for my Dad -- and everything he's done for me. -- KU #withdad."
