Scott Marshall: 'Ink Master' Winner Died Of Heroin Overdose

Illinois-based tattoo artist and winner of "Ink Master" season four Scott Marshall passed away in October from a heroin overdose, the Wrap reported. The Dupage County Medical Examiner & Coroner's confirmed Marshall's cause of death on Monday.

Marshall worked as a tattoo artist at the Roselle Tattoo Company in Roselle, Ill., according to NBC Chicago. The 41-year-old was found dead on Oct. 25 in a room at the Holiday Inn Express in Roselle.

A preliminary autopsy report showed that Marshall's cause of death was unspecified heart issues, as previously reported by HNGN. His case remained under investigation and is still ongoing. But a recently released autopsy revealed that Marshall died from heroin and benzodiazepine intoxication, Chief Deputy Coroner Charlie Dastych told NBC Chicago earlier this month.

The tattoo artist also had Xanax and Valium in his system, according to documents obtained by TMZ. His death was concluded to be an accident due to intoxication.

Marshall's wife Johanna originally told TMZ that her husband called her on Saturday night and said he wasn't feeling well and wouldn't be making the drive home from the Roselle Tattoo shop. He told her he checked into a hotel room for the night but didn't answer he calls the next day.

In 2014, Marshall won season four of Spike TV's tattoo competition reality show "Ink Master," hosted by founding member of the rock band Jane's Addiction Dave Navarro. He beat out contestants Walter "Sausage" Rank and Matti Hixson and earned the grand prize of $100,000 and a feature in the tattoo-centric Ink Magazine, according to the Wrap.

Marshall is survived by his wife and three children.
