Kansas City Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder told reporters Thursday that linebacker Justin Houston has a hyperextended knee and that swelling in his knee is going down, according to NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport.
On Wednesday, reports surfaced that Houston could miss the remainder of the regular season, and with Kansas City sitting in the wildcard spot in the current playoff picture, many were concerned with the star linebacker's status. Houston suffered the injury against the Buffalo Bills in week 12, and the team is hopeful he can make a return before the end of the regular season. No definitive timetable has been set on Houston's return at this time. The Chiefs are tied at 8-5 with the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers, leaving them no room for error down the stretch.
While it's unclear when Houston will be able to return, the fact that he does not have a serious ACL or MCL injury is good news for Chiefs fans. The Chiefs also made a move Thursday that would make many Kansas City fans happy, as they reportedly signed offensive lineman Jah Reid to a three-year contract extension, according to Rapoport.
Reid has started the past six games at right tackle for the Chiefs and has been a crucial piece in Kansas City's seven-game win streak. "Jah has been a good pickup for us, just from the stand point of we got banged up up front there, and so he was thrown in, kind of, in the action his first week here against the Texans," said head coach Andy Reid, via the Baltimore Sun. "A couple of games after that, he played, and then he had a little hiatus there, where he didn't play; and we've had to bring him back here. So, he has been very valuable to us from that respect."
The Chiefs have the longest winning streak in the AFC going into Sunday's matchup against the Ravens but will need to finish strong as they are in a tight race for one of the two wildcard spots.
