A New Jersey Grand Jury has indicted the Walmart truck driver responsible for the 2014 car crash that seriously injured Tracy Morgan and killed his friend and comedian, James McNair.
Kevin Roper was charged for eight counts of third-degree aggravated assault for causing bodily injury to Morgan and three others involved in the crash, according to court documents obtained by E! News. Roper also received a charge for one count of first-degree aggravated manslaughter and one count of second-degree vehicular homicide for causing the death of McNair.
Morgan and his associates settled a lawsuit with Walmart earlier this year. Roper's lawyer wanted his client's case put in front of grand jury because he believed Morgan's high-profile lawsuit would result in an unfair trial for Roper.
The truck driver plowed his tractor-trailer into the back of Morgan's bus limo on the New Jersey Turnpike on June 7, 2014. Morgan, McNair and their comedy pals were returning home after performing a show in Delaware.
The "30 Rock" star was left with broken ribs, a broken leg, a broken nose and severe head trauma. He's made an outstanding recovery, returning to TV during the 2015 Emmys and hosting an episode of "Saturday Night Live" this fall. He also recently announced an upcoming stand-up tour for 2016.
