Country singer Miranda Lambert sparked the ire of animal rights activists after she shared a picture of herself on Instagram Saturday showing off one of two fur coats gifted to her by her grandmother, according to E!.
"'I'm so fancy... You already know,'" she captioned the post, quoting Iggy Azalea's 2014 hit. "My Nonny gave me two of her fur coats! I definitely know where I got my love for DIAMONDS, FUR and WHISKEY! #familytradition #grandmastreasures #besthandmedownever #wandathewanderer #bringitwinter."
In a following post, Lambert shared a collage with a photo of herself with her grandmother and a picture of the inside of the coat, with grandma's name, Wanda Coker, embroidered on it.
"Her name embroidered inside is priceless," wrote the "Little Red Wagon" singer, according to ABC News. "A family heirloom I will cherish forever. I'm so thankful for her and all the things I have learned from her. Nonny is strong, beautiful, feisty and most of all, loving."
The post drew a lot of criticism from animal rights activists who expressed their anger by leaving comments like "f-k fur" and "shame on you," according to Entertainment Tonight. Some even slammed the singer for being a "hypocrite" given that she and her mother co-founded the MuttNation foundation, which works toward ending pet suffering and providing animal shelter.
Animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) also disapproved of Lambert's gifts.
"We had higher hopes. Since Miranda rescues dogs, we always thought she could see that whether fur comes from a mink, a fox, or a dog or a cat in China, the source is always a gentle animal who did not want to die," said PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange.
