Following her up-tempo dance hit "Work B***h," Britney Spears will be releasing a ballad co-written by Sia Furler for her next single off of her forthcoming album, "Britney Jean," her new song "Perfume" set to premiere tomorrow on Facebook.
"'Perfume' is incredibly special to me because it hits close to home, and I think the story is relatable to everyone," the pop princess recently told E! News. "Everyone's been through an insecure moment in a relationship that's left them vulnerable and I think this song captures that."
Spears has been saying for months that the aptly-titled "Britney Jean" is her most personal album yet, featuring collaborations with Sia, will.i.am, Naughty Boy and William Orbit.
Singer-songwriter Elijah Blake, who worked with Spears on the new album, revealed last year that her new sound may surprise many fans.
"I would say it's definitely the 'unexpected' Britney in so many ways, in that she's playing with new textures and stomping on new grounds and genres." Sounds like new Britney's on a mission," Blake told That Grape Juice at the time.
"I have been through a lot in the past few years and it has really inspired me to dig deeper and write songs that I think everyone can relate to," Spears wrote in a recent letter to her fans posted on her official website.
"Working with people like Sia, William Orbit, and of course will.i.am has been an amazing experience. They have listened to all of my ideas and helped me bring them to life. There are a lot of really fun, upbeat dance songs, but it was important to me that I show my strength, and my attitude, and my vulnerability. Of course, I also have some surprises for you guys ;) I want to show you the different sides of Britney Spears. I am a performer. I am a Mom. I am funny. I am your friend! I am Britney Jean."
"Britney Jean" is set to hit stores Dec. 3, around the time that Spears will begin her two-year "Piece of Me" residency in Las Vegas at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
Full Lyrics to "Perfume
Do I imagine it, or do I see your stare
Is there still longing there?
Oh I hate myself, and I feel crazy
Such a classic tale
Current girl friend, ex girlfriend, I'm trying to be cool
Am I being paranoid, am I seeing things?
Am I just insecure?
I want to believe
It's just you and me
Sometimes it feels like there's three
of us in here baby
CHORUS
So I, wait for you to call
And I try to act natural
have you been thinking 'bout her or about me
And while I wait I put on my perfume, yeah I want it all over you
I gotta mark my territory
I'll never tell, tell on myself but I hope she smells my perfume
I'll never tell, tell on myself but I hope she smells your perfume
I hide it well, hope you can't tell but I hope she smells my perfume
I hide it well, hope you can't tell but I hope she smells my perfume
I wanna fill the room, when she's in it with you
Please don't forget me
Do I imagine it, or catch these moments
I know you got history
But I'm your girlfriend, now I'm your girlfriend trying to be cool
I hope I'm paranoid, that I'm just seeing things
That I'm just insecure
I want to believe
It's just you and me
Sometimes it feels like there's three
of us in here baby
CHORUS
So I, wait for you to call I'll never tell, tell on myself but I hope she smells my perfume
And I try to act natural
have you been thinking 'bout her or about me
And while I wait I put on my perfume, yeah I want it all over you
I gotta mark my territory
I'll never tell, tell on myself but I hope she smells your perfume
I hide it well, hope you can't tell but I hope she smells my perfume
I hide it well, hope you can't tell but I hope she smells my perfume
