The driving force behind Phase One and Two of Marvel's Cinematic Universe has been the Infinity Stones. As we saw in the post-credits scene of 2011's "Thor," the Infinity Stones are the catalyst for most of the major events. Each stone is incredibly powerful by itself, but when brought together on the Infinity Gauntlet, they give someone practically unlimited power. As such, it's no surprise why Thanos is going to so much trouble to get them.
As of now, two Infinity Stones have yet to be introduced: the Soul Stone and the Time Stone. Marvel hasn't given any indication when audiences might see these, but based on a new comment from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, it's likely that Benedict Cumberbatch's "Doctor Strange" will feature the Time Stone.
Feige recently discussed Strange's amulet, the Eye of Agamotto, and talked about its ability to "screw around with time." We know that "Doctor Strange" will deal with multiple dimensions and magic. What we don't know is if this is the result of inexplicable convergences or if it is tied into a larger cosmic power. If it's the latter, could the Eye just be the Time Stone?
In the comics, the Time Stone allows its user to see into the past and future, slow down the flow of time and travel throughout it. Sounds kind of like the Eye, right? Similar to Loki's scepter in "The Avengers," this object could be an Infinity Stone that our heroes are just unaware of to start the movie.
Incorporating the Time Stone would also tie "Doctor Strange" in with the rest of the MCU. For a movie that is already going to be quite out there, that's probably a good thing. Perhaps the Sorcerer Supreme will get a psychic glimpse of Thanos coming for his amulet? It's possible.
"Doctor Strange" will arrive on Nov. 4, 2016.
