The Green Bay Packers travel to FedExField to face the Washington Redskins in the final game on wild card weekend. The Packers finished their season with two disappointing losses and lost the NFC North division title against the Vikings in the regular season finale. The Redskins are rolling into the playoffs on four straight wins, and head coach Jay Gruden is looking to prove that his team is better than their 9-7 record.
Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins has clearly made a name for himself this year in the NFL and is expected to get a huge contract following this season. The fourth year quarterback has proven himself on the field this season, throwing for 4,166 yards with 29 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. Cousins has started to play his best football late in the season, and he has thrown 11 touchdowns with no interceptions in the final three games of the regular season.
Cousins' favorite target is tight end Jordan Reed, and the Redskins third-round pick in 2013 is proving himself as a top-tier tight end in the league. The 6-foot-2, 237-pound tight end leads the team in both receptions and yards and has scored 11 touchdowns this season. Reed has 952 receiving yards, and he will likely pass the 1,000-yard mark on Sunday, as he is huge part of their offense.
The Redskins offense has been the leader of this team down the stretch of the regular season, but head coach Jay Gruden knows his defense will have to step up against 2014 NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. The Redskins defense finished 28th in the league in terms of yards allowed per game and will need to step up as a whole to slow down the Packers offense.
Packers quarterback Rodgers has had another incredible season with 31 touchdowns to eight interceptions, but turnovers have been a problem for the franchise quarterback. Rodgers has 16 total turnovers with 8eight fumbles, and that is the most he has had since the 2008 regular season. The Packers star quarterback struggled in the final three games of the season with three touchdowns to three interceptions, and look for him to get some short passes out quickly to get a rhythm going for Green Bay's offense Sunday.
Rodgers will look to get wide receivers James Jones and Randall Cobb involved early, as the Packers use their passing game to open holes in the ground game. Jones is coming off a strong performance in the regular season finale with over 100 receiving yards and has scored eight touchdowns this season. Both Cobb and Jones will be crucial to Rodgers' success on Sunday, as they will look to exploit a Redskins defense that struggled this season.
It's the final game of wild card weekend and looks to be an exciting matchup between two historic franchises.
