David Bowie passed away on Sunday after an 18-month-long battle with cancer, as HNGN previously reported. In response to the news of the legendary musician's passing, Hollywood took to social media to remember the life of an icon.
Stars from Madonna to Kanye West took a moment to remember the singer when news broke about his death at the age of 69. Madonna shared a series of tweets early Monday morning. The singer first wrote that she was "devastated" to learn of the passing of Bowie, who was the first concert the Material Girl ever saw in her native Detroit. Madonna accepted Bowie's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 1996 and wrote that his "spirit lives on forever."
Paul McCartney posted a picture of him and Bowie and said that he was very sad to "wake up to on this raining morning."
"David was a great star and I treasure the moments we had together," McCartney continued in a Facebook post. "His music played a very strong part in British musical history and I'm proud to think of the huge influence he has had on people all around the world."
Bowie celebrated his 69th birthday on Friday, just days before his death. To celebrate his birth on Jan. 8, the singer released his 25th studio album called "Blackstar."
