David Bowie announced Sunday on his website that his 25th studio album, titled "Blackstar" will release on the rock legend's 69th birthday, Jan. 8, 2016.
"Blackstar's" title track and first single will drop on Nov. 20 and will not be featured in "Lazarus," the musical Bowie is co-writing with Enda Walsh. The musical is based on the 1976 sci-fi film starring Bowie, "The Man Who Fell to Earth" and is scheduled to premiere at the New York Theatre Workshop in December, according to BBC News.
"Blackstar" will be a followup to Bowie's 2013 album "The Next Day," which debuted at number one in the UK. "The Next Day" was his first album released in a decade, and was announced on the rocker's 66th birthday.
Earlier this month, Bowie shared a 45-second snippet of the "Blackstar" title track, which is being used as the theme for Sky Atlantic's new John Hurt and Samantha Morton starring drama "The Last Panthers." No other details about the new album have been revealed, however Bowie's website labeled initial reports about the "sound and content" of the album as "inaccurate," according to Rolling Stone.
