As it turns out, Domino's pizzas are a lot unhealthier than consumers might think. According to tests conducted for a Channel 4 program called "Tricks of the Restaurant trade," a Domino's cheese and tomato pizza might carry as much as 13 percent more calories and 11 percent more fat than the official nutritional information provided by the company, reports The Daily Mail.
Domino's was not the only pizza chain that was found to be especially unhealthy by the nutritionists who initiated the tests, however.
A medium-sized pizza from Papa John's, for example, was found to contain nearly 58 grams of fat, and a pulled pork Napoli pizza from Zizzi was found to have as much as 68 grams of fat, which is equivalent to roughly 6.5 bags of Walkers crisps, reports The Daily Star.
Domino's has responded to the results of the test, stating that the variations in fat and calorie levels might be caused by the fact that each pizza the company creates is assembled by hand. Hence, it would be very easy for the calorie content to increase simply because of an additional topping or a few grams of extra cheese.
"The variations are within the limits allowed by law but we recognize that giving our customers accurate information to make informed choices is important. That's why we've taken this opportunity to remind our team members of the need to ensure the amount of cheese and toppings per pizza, are as close as possible to our guideline amounts," Domino's spokesperson Louise Bulter said.
But this is not all, however, as the Food and Drug Administration has also warned last week that even conventional pizza boxes usually carry harmful chemicals, such as perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, which are suspected to increase the risks of cancer, according to Yahoo! News.
