Walmart might not always be around when you need it, as the company plans to close 269 of its stores worldwide, CNN reported. This includes 154 locations in the U.S.
Sales have fallen for the retail giant, forcing it to re-evaluate its global strategy. But fear not, as the company assured that most of the Walmart stores that are shutting down are still within 10 miles of another Walmart.
Additionally, a majority of the stores shutting down in the U.S. are part of the "Walmart Express" pilot program, which wasn't as successful as expected, according to TIME.
In addition to the 154 American stores, 60 stores in Brazil, 55 stores in Latin America, and seven stores in Puerto Rico will be shut down.
Four Sam's Club stores, six discount centers, 23 Neighborhood Markets, and 12 Supercenters will also be closing their doors this year.
More than 16,000 employees will be affected by the closures, Fox News noted. Ten thousand of these employees work in American stores.
"It's important to remember that we'll open well more than 300 stores around the world next year. So we are committed to growing, but we are being disciplined about it," Doug McMillon, President and CEO of Walmart, said in a press release.
