You can kiss your international Netflix streaming goodbye very soon. Netflix is getting serious about its users who bypass its systems to access international content, PC Mag reports. Customers who use special VPN services to access content outside of their home country will have a harder time doing so after this weekend, the company has announced in a blog post.
"In coming weeks, those using proxies and unblockers will only be able to access the service in the country where they currently are. We are confident this change won't impact members not using proxies," Netflix Vice President David Fullagar said, according to Bloomberg.
the company will begin working on special technology that will stop users from changing their location, and it will be implemented in the coming weeks, USA Today reports.
This is due to Netflix's recent expansion, taking the company to almost all countries across the globe. Its ultimate goal is to have a universal library for all to use.
"We're dealing with a system that's very fragmented. We have been licensing just for France or just the U.S. Now we've started the movement. It's probably five to 10 years before the catalogs have really come together," said CEO Reed Hastings.
Netflix is now available in 190 countries, up from 60 last week, and those numbers will continue to grow.
