The Tennessee Titans officially named interim head coach Mike Mularkey their permanent head coach on Saturday evening, according to Titans reporter Jim Wyatt.
Mularkey was named interim head coach midseason after the Titans front office decided to let go of Ken Whisenhunt. Tennessee finished tied for the worst record in the NFL this season with a 3-13 record. They will now focus on their player personnel after establishing both their head coach and general manager positions. On Thursday, the Titans agreed to terms with Tampa Buccaneers director of player personnel Jon Robinson to become Tennessee's next general manager.
Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk reportedly was a "strong proponent" of keeping Mularkey as the head coach in Tennessee, as the two had a good relationship during the 2015 season.
"The vision Mike presented for our football team during this search as well as the character, integrity, and leadership skills he displayed during the last two months of the season makes him the right coach for the Tennessee Titans," said Strunk, via the Titans' team website. "Mike is a quality coach and an outstanding person who will help us build this team the right way. He has experience as a head coach and a track record for developing young quarterbacks and dynamic offenses, and he also brings continuity for our franchise quarterback."
