Rumors are swirling about the second-generation Apple Watch. Sources reveal that the new Apple Watch could be heading into mass production throughout the second quarter of 2016, Mac Rumors reports. This information comes alongside reports that Quanta will be the only manufacturer of the popular Apple device.
"Apple originally considered shifting some second-generation Apple Watch orders to Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry), but decided to keep all the orders with Quanta as volumes will not be high, the sources noted. Because of Apple Watch's weaker than expected shipments, Apple recently reduced the device's shipment forecast for 2016 down further from its estimate in the fourth quarter of 2015," Quanta sources said, according to Mac Rumors.
As the Apple Watch continues its heated competition with rival products like the Fitbit, these rumors possibly come as a result of disappointing sales. With that in mind, it is likely that the rumors hint at a new and improved device.
Apple originally toned down its Apple Watch production due to weak sales in 2015, according to Apple Insider. The device, however, dominates the smart watch market by nearly 50 percent. There is no specific sales data, however, as Apple hasn't released official reports, according to the International Business Times.
Alongside reports of a second-generation Apple Watch, many believe there will be numerous software and system updates as well.
