EntertainmentWise reports that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be making an appearance on the red carpet at the UK premiere of "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom", a biopic based on the life of the legendary South African leader, Nelson Mandela, next month in London.
Kate Middleton and Prince William will be joined by actors Idris Elba and Naomie Harris, and will meet the film's director, Justin Chadwick, as well as Nelson Mandela's daughter, Zindzi Mandelea, according to The Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund and Pathé. The star-studded premiere will take place at the Odeon Leicester Square on Thursday, Dec. 5.
This won't be the first time that the Duke and Duchess will walk the red carpet of a film premiere. Back in January 2012, the two attended the premiere of Steven Spielberg's "War Horse" Lecister Square, and Middleton reportedly cried during the screening, having been so touched by the movie.
"I was sitting next to her and all I know is at one point my wife, who was sitting to my right, right in front of my face she passed a Kleenex," Spielberg told BBC Breakfast News after the premiere. "I saw the Kleenex go across my face, arrive and stop but I didn't want to intrude on her experience watching War Horse so I never glanced over. According to my peripheral vision her eyes were dabbed."
As for the "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom," Justin Chadwick's new film starring Idris Elba as Nelson Mandela was well received by the Mandela family, according to EntertainmentWise, although Elba admitted to Variety magazine recently that he was nervous to attend the premiere in South Africa due to the film's sensitive subject matter.
"In South Africa, they were very silent and I wondered what that was about," he told the magazine. "I thought maybe they didn't like it, but they were just absorbing. You've got to remember, the whole freedom struggle in South Africa is about 25-years-old. When we got there, the reaction was real."
