Country Singer Tyler Farr Cancels Shows Following Vocal Surgery, 'This Is The Last Thing I Would've Ever Expected'

Country star Tyler Farr had to undergo surgery that left him no choice but to cancel some of his upcoming shows.

The 31-year-old singer recently underwent microlaryngeal surgery to remove a polyp on his vocal chords and has been placed on total vocal rest, according to his website. Farr first became aware of this issue this past summer while touring with Jason Aldean. It was then identified towards the end of 2015 as a severe bout of bronchitis.

"This is the last thing I would've ever expected," Farr said in a statement. "I sing hard, and I give it everything I have every night, but I really believed I was putting my training to work. After a #1 song, an awesome tour with Jason and getting engaged, this is not how I thought I was going to be winding up 2015."

Back in November, he cancelled five tour dates due to his Bronchitis diagnosis, and now that he must receive aggressive therapy following the surgery to maximize his recovery, he is cancelling all of his shows for the next few months. He was scheduled to open for Lee Brice during their Life Off My Years Tour starting on Feb. 4 in Salisbury, Md.

"I hate cancelling shows, especially the upcoming tour with my buddy Lee Brice, but I never want to give the fans less than everything," he added. "And I know the sooner I let my body heal, the sooner I can get back out there-and the fewer problems I will have in the long run. To me, it's never about the next few days, but doing the right thing overall, and now I'm under doctor's orders."

Farr has credited his past vocal issues with helping him develop his signature throaty sound, according to Taste of Country. Back in 2009, he pushed himself to sing through strep throat and ended up popping a blood vessel in his throat, and when doctors told him they could do surgery, he refused because the scar tissue helped give him a distinct sound.

"It's weird how things work out," he said at the time.

It is unclear when or if Farr will be returning to the stage as he has shows scheduled all the way until Sep. 30 in Las Vegas, Nev.
