GLAAD announced the nominees for its 27th annual GLAAD Media Awards Wednesday morning, which included some big names in the entertainment industry. The award show recognizes and honors media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives.
Miley Cyrus, Caitlyn Jenner and Ricky Martin were all nominated for awards for their work in the LGBT community, and popular TV shows like "Empire" and "Orange is the New Black" were nominated as well. On the film front, Academy Award-nominated films "Carol" and "The Danish Girl" are up for Best Picture along with "Dope," "Freeheld" and "Grandma."
"For nearly three decades, the GLAAD Media Awards have propelled inclusion in media and driven LGBT acceptance forward," GLAAD XEO and President Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement, according to E! News. "This year's nominees have raised the bar for creating thoughtful and diverse LGBT images and storylines, deepening audiences' understanding of LGBT people and accelerating acceptance across the world."
The GLAAD Media Awards ceremonies will air on television for the first time in a decade in April on LOGO, according to CNN. The ceremonies will be held on April 2 at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles and May 14 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.
