Sony Computer Entertainment received multiple complaints about "dead" PlayStation 4 consoles on Thursday, but the company has "reassured" gamers it is not a wide spread issue.
IGN reported about their "dead" next-gen console after installing the PS4 day one patch. The tech site also reported about their contest winner receiving a broken PS4 and getting the run-around from Sony's customer service.
Once Sony's Shuhei Yoshida, President of Worldwide Studios, was made aware of the complaints, he sent out a message on Twitter confirming the company was investigating the claims of broken PS4. Sony released the following statement to IGN:
"A handful of people have reported issues with their PlayStation 4 systems. This is within our expectations for a new product introduction, and the vast majority of PS4 feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. We are closely monitoring for additional reports, but we think these are isolated incidents and are on track for a great launch.
"There have been several problems reported, which leads us to believe there isn't a singular problem that could impact a broader percentage of systems. The number of affected systems represents less than .4% of shipped units to date, which is within our expectations for a new product introduction."
The PS4 issues may not be widespread, but the PlayStation Network experienced technical difficulties as a high volume of users caused it to crash on Friday.
"The PlayStation Network is currently experiencing extremely high volume," Sony Support wrote on their website. "As a result, some gamers may experience some difficulty connecting to the network or downloading content. We are actively working to resolve the issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience."
