Wisconsin Police: Stolen Cheese Reported After Two Thefts

The Germantown Police Department in Wisconsin reported a batch of stolen cheese Friday worth $70,000 consisting of cheddar and other kinds of cheeses. Marshfield Police was able to obtain cheese amounting to $90,000 earlier this month.

Lt. Todd Grenier of the Germantown Police Department said that the missing trailer was eventually found in Milwaukee, but the cheese was no longer there.

"We have recovered the trailer, minus the cheese," Grenier said, according to CBS 58. "This was not a one or two person job."

A $70,000 block of cheese cannot be carried by a single person and could weigh thousands of pounds.

"We found out where the tractor was and kind of mapped its progress through the city," Grenier added.

Another case of stolen cheese was reported the previous week on Jan. 15 in Grand Chute, but it is not yet confirmed if the two cases are related.

"About $90,000 worth of Parmesan cheese is missing," Lt. Darren Larson of the Marshfield Police Department said, according to WTMJ.

The Marshfield Police Department sought assistance from the Grand Chute Police Department where the cheese shipment was possibly placed, according to a tip, the Associated Press reported. In this case, the Le Sueur Parmesan Cheese, weighing 41,000 pounds, was recovered, but no arrests have been made. It was supposed to be transported to Illinois.
