"How I Met Your Mother" spinoff might be slowly becoming a reality.
According to The Wrap, CBS has commited to a "How I Met Your Dad" pilot, which would focus on a female perspective of finding "the one." The show will be written by HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas.
The first spinoff buzz came at the end of October this year. According to Deadline, HIMYM producers were working with 20th Century fox to move forward with the potential spinoff.
"I hear the new characters could be introduced in the HIMYM series finale, and Ted, Barney, Marshall, Lily and Robin's favorite hangout, MacLaren's Pub, may be featured on the new show, serving as a link between the two gangs," Deadline reported. "The premise, which is not tied to any of the original HIMYM characters, gives [show writers] Bays, Thomas and Spivey a clean slate to build new characters and relationships."
The Hollywood Reporter also reported other sitcoms were working on spinoffs for their popular series, including the much raved about "Modern Family" on ABC.
"In addition to this potential follow-up, studio 20th Television is also in early talks for a possible Modern Family spinoff. This season, ABC launched Once Upon a Time's Wonderland-set spin off, and The CW has found early success with The Vampire Diaries' offshoot The Originals. The CW also has a planted spin off set for sophomore drama Arrow, centering on DC Comics hero The Flash. CBS is already prepping a New Orleans-set NCIS spinoff from showrunner Gary Glasberg and star Mark Harmon."
You can catch the final season of "How I Met Your Mother" on CBS on Mondays at 8 p.m.
