Reportedly AMC is trying to get their hands on the next big TV series. With shows like "Breaking Bad" and "Mad Men" leaving soon the network is trying to find a replacement and that replacement sounds like it could be a TV adaption of the controversial comic book "Preacher."
According to badassdigest.com, AMC has ordered a pilot based off the comic by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. The comic books follow the story of Jesse Custer, a small town preacher who is battling his own personal demons (literally and figuratively).
Accidentally Custer is possessed by a supernatural creature named Genesis - the child of an angel and a demon - who kills Custer's entire congregation and flattens his church. Custer then goes on a journey to (literally) find God, who abandoned Heaven the moment Genesis was born.
The preacher plans to make God pay for leaving his children behind. Joining him on the journey is Custer's ex-girlfriend Tulip and an Irish vampire named Cassidy. Along the way the trio face several obstacles and challenges.
According to TV Guide this isn't the first time someone has attempted to adapt "Preacher" to the screen. Kevin Smith and Sam Mendes were attached to a film adaption of the comic but it never took off. Last year Mendes told Collider that he thought the comic would do better as a series on TV but in 2008 HBO passed on the chance to adapt the show "saying it was too violent and controversial."
Seth Rogan recently sparked rumors that he would be involved in the project tweeting: "Looks like about seven years of hard work are about to pay off. I may get to bring my favorite stories ever to life."
He then followed that tweet by posting the character names: "Aserface, John Wayne, The Saint of Killers."
This would be the second comic book adaption for AMC who already has "The Walking Dead."
