It's impossible to deny the impact that Will Ferrell's iconic newsman character Ron Burgundy has had on comedy, the careers of those involved and... apparently education? At least that's what the people of Emerson College seem to think as they are renaming their school of communications after the fake news anchor.
Of course, the change will only last for one day. The Boston college will change the name of its school of communications to the "Ron Burgundy School of Communications" on December 4 to honor the fictional character as well as to make it a better place to host a press conference starring Will Ferrell in character, and a screening of the Paramount sequel "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues."
Ferrell will show up, in costume and character, to share with the students his path to journalism and greatness. According to the Hollywood Reporter, his visit will include a news conference, the renaming ceremony and a screening of the film. However, he will reportedly be breaking character and introducing the film as himself.
Lee Pelton, the president of Emerson College, says that Burgundy "understands the power of media, as well as hairspray, firsthand."
Ferrell has had a history of making announcements about the upcoming sequel to the 2005 hit in character. In fact, the announcement that he had signed a deal to make the film was announced to the public due to a walk-on during an episode of Conan in which the Ferrell, as Burgundy, played the jazz flute and told the crowd that Anchorman 2 as coming. Since that time he's released an autobiography, a Ben & Jerry's flavor (Scotchy Scotch Scotch), a series of car commercials and a PSA about piracy.
The new film will see Ron and his trusty news crew leave San Diego for the Big Apple to host a national news network. They will have to adapt to a changing world of race, gender and a brand new platform of telling the news.
