Xbox One Release Issues: Microsoft Responds To Disc Drive Hardware Issues

Microsoft recently broke all of its own sales records with the release of the Xbox One last Friday. Since that time many people who have brought home their new next-gen console have reported disc reading hardware problems. Now Microsoft has finally acknowledged these numerous complaints.

"The issue is affecting a very small number of Xbox One customers. We're working directly with those affected to get a replacement console to them as soon as possible through our advanced exchange program. Rest assured, we are taking care of our customers," a statement from the company to its users read.

According to IGN, which experienced this issue with one of its consoles, the machines suffer from the same disc drive problem. When a disc is inserted into the Xbox One, the console makes a loud grinding noise. While the disc is unaffected by the hardware error, the Xbox One simply won't read any game discs. A notification reportedly comes up that reads "Sorry, we can't play the disc. Try an Xbox One game, a music CD, or a movie on Blu-ray or DVD."

When the gaming news website initially reached out to Microsoft, they received the following statement:

"We know that with a hardware launch of this magnitude customers will have questions and we have many avenues for customers to get the answers they need and get back in the game as soon as possible. Rest assured we plan to take care of our customers. Any customer who believes they are experiencing an issue with their Xbox One should reach out to us through Xbox Support."

Despite selling more than one million consoles in less than 24 hours after its launch, BBC News reports that several people took to gaming websites like Kotaku, NeoGAF and IGN to report the issues. Meanwhile, others made videos, like the one below, showing their problem and trying to discover if there were others out there experiencing the same issue.

Now it seems the many people who are affected have an avenue from Microsoft to get this problem corrected.
