Fans who mourned the series finale of reality TV competition "America's Next Top Model" now have a reason to smile again. The hit fashion series is set to return to television on VH1, the network confirmed in an announcement, and viewers can expect a revamp the iconic show with a new host - under the supervision of supermodel and show creator Tyra Banks.
The series finale of "ANTM," which marked the end of Cycle 22, aired last December and the new revamp will pick back up with Cycle 23, according to VH1. The upcoming season will mark a return to the show's roots, the fashion capital New York City, and will feature 14 episodes.
"After creating an incredible, global brand, I am beyond excited to have the show reborn," Banks said in a statement. "I will continue as Executive Producer, but must turn my attention to new business endeavors, so I want to find a new host. I'm pumped to identify that person and bring back the show. Top Model fans, you demanded that the show come back, and VH1 answered the call. Get ready for a fierce-a-fied rebirth!"
Although it wasn't known for making supermodels out of its contestants, "ANTM" had a huge impact on pop culture, as previously reported by HNGN. The series followed a group of contestants as they took part in fashion challenges and photo shoots which were critiqued by a panel of judges. At the end of each cycle, the most worthy contestant is crowned "America's Next Top Model."
"We're thrilled to bring 'America's Next Top Model' back to VH1 and partner with CBS Television Distribution and Tyra Banks to reinvent this franchise for a whole new generation," Chris McCarthy, General Manager of VH1, said in a statement. "This is a homecoming for the series, as VH1 helped catapult the show to cultural icon status as the first cable network to air the show after it launched."
A new host and panel of judges, along with a premiere date, will be announced at a later date.
