There will be a global "Pokemon Day" event for the franchise's 20th anniversary Saturday, where fans could join celebrations staged in several cities and special surprises in participating stores around the world.
All "Pokemon" fans in New York, for instance, are invited to take part in the event at the Rockefeller Center, which the Pokemon Company promises will be filled with fun activities. In Los Angeles, there will be an opening celebration of the "Pokemon" pop-up shop Saturday night. Goodies are also waiting for enthusiasts who will head to participating stores, where special edition releases can be purchased, including the "Pokemon Red" and "Blue," which are coming out in a special 20th anniversary bundle, according to Engadget.
Toys "R" Us, for one, will be giving out special foil cards that feature Pikachu and Magikarp from the new "Pokemon TCG: Generations" expansion in addition to goodies such as an activity book and a poster that features all 151 original Pokemon, according to an official statement. GameStop will also offer goodies such as the Mythical Pokemon poster and an exclusive Mew plush, which will be available for sale, Nintendo Insider reported.
Twitch has also announced that it will host a 24-hour "Pokemon" marathon, which will broadcast an array of gameplay, analyses, discussions, "Pokemon" movies, television episodes and specials. The marathon will start on Saturday at 10 a.m. EST and will continue until Sunday.
