Young actor Abraham Attah made a bold statement on the red carpet on Sunday at the 88th annual Academy Awards by wearing TOMS shoes with his tuxedo, and the charitable shoe brand has made a generous donation in his honor.
The 15-year-old "Beasts of No Nation" star showed up to the Oscars looking dapper in a black tuxedo and a velvet black pair of TOMS casual slip-on shoes. The for-profit shoe brand is known for donating a pair of shoes to children in need for every pair of shoes sold, so Attah was not only looking fashionable but he was also making a difference in the process, according to Mashable. This isn't the first time he was seen in the comfortable yet stylish footwear, either, as he sported a pair of lace-up TOMS on Saturday night at the Independent Spirit Awards, where he won Best Actor.
Instead of donating just one pair for Attah's trendy look, TOMS decided to make an even bigger donation thanks to his support. "These shoes was made by TOMS and it was custom made for only me," Abraham told Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet, according to Pulse. "And they are donating 10,000 pairs of shoes to Ghana so it's pretty cool."
TOMS then took to Twitter to share the exciting news, alongside a photo of Attah on the red carpet. "With the help of @AttahNii, we're giving 10k pairs of shoes to kids in need in his home country of Ghana #Oscars," the tweet read.
The same photo was also posted to TOMS' Instagram, with the caption, "We're so thankful for @abraham.attah.nii's choice to wear #TOMSshoes on the red carpet last night. We're excited to give 10,000 pairs on his behalf to the children in need in his home country of Ghana. Giving looks good on you, Abraham!"
