Joey Feek of the country singing duo Joey + Rory only has a few days left to live, according to her husband Rory Feek. On Monday, Rory took to his blog This Life I Live to give a heartbreaking update on his wife's condition, who has been battling cervical cancer since 2014.
Joey has been in hospice for some time now, and not long after their daughter Indiana's second birthday, Joey decided that "enough was enough" and that she was "ready to stop fighting," Rory wrote in his post.
The country singer said that his wife said her goodbyes to family members, including her mother, father and three sisters. The she asked Rory to bring in their daughter.
"I set our little Indy on Joey's lap and we all cried with my wife as she told her how much her mama loved her and ...you be a big girl for your papa... and that mama will be watching over you," Rory continued on his blog. "And then she pulled Indiana up and she kissed her."
Since Joey said her tearful goodbye to her daughter and her family, Rory said she that his 40-year-old wife has been asleep for days and that her body is quickly shutting down, but he wanted to remind everyone that she lived a "very full life." Rory explained that one of the hospice nurses came into Joey's room Monday morning and said that she would "most likely only be with us for a few more days... at the most."
In October 2015, Joey learned that her stage 4 cancer had turned terminal and that she only had about six months to live. Upon learning the news, she said her only wish was to live long enough to see her daughter have another birthday. Joey got to celebrate her daughter's second birthday in February, along with a very special Valentine's Day, the nomination at the 2016 Grammy Awards, and the release of their new album.
"God only gives each of us a certain amount of time to be on this earth and every day when we wake up, we get to decide how we are going to spend those precious minutes and hours. There are no do-overs, no second-chances, no next-time-around's to get it right. Joey knew this and she has made each and every day count," Rory wrote.
