The start of a new month marks a turning point for both Microsoft and Sony in the form of new software updates. Sony is already ahead of the game and has confirmed that with its latest firmware update, version 3.50, gamers will be able to use Remote Play with PC and Mac.
However Microsoft isn't far behind and had a few announcements of its own, confirming that it is deploying a patch that makes using some of the Xbox's many features easier, many of which had been frequently requested by gamers.
Here is the complete list of additions that will be incorporated into the Xbox One's latest update, as per Major Nelson.
The most notable addition in the update is likely the improved access to Xbox 360 games. Microsoft has allowed Xbox One gamers to download and play certain Xbox 360 games since its major backwards compatibility update on Nov. 12 - a move that earned the praise of gamers and critics alike. However, finding them was a challenge that bordered along the lines of inconvenience for many, somewhat diminishing the value of this otherwise great addition. In the new update, Microsoft has addressed this problem by allowing gamers to find and purchase Xbox 360 Backward Compatible games in the same way they would Xbox One titles, making the entire process far easier.
Party Chat have also been given a solid boost, with streamers now able to broadcast the entirety of the party chat over the stream. Up to this point, streamers while in a party were only able to broadcast their side of the conversation. Party Chat limit has also been increased to 16, a step-up from the 12-person parties Xbox One has featured since last fall.
There are also a bevy of smaller additions that come with the update, which include:
• Outputting Party Chat to headset and speakers simultaneously
• Customizable Game DVR recording length
• Tracking Achievement progress in the Xbox One guide
• Video playback directly in the Xbox One Activity Feed
Member's of Microsoft's Xbox One Preview program can download the update today, while everyone else will have to wait for it to roll out over the next couple of weeks.
