Three couples face three separate oppositions to their upcoming nuptials on FYI's newest reality TV series "Bride and Prejudice." On the upcoming first season, an interracial, interfaith and same-sex couple must deal with disapproval from their families and ultimately decide if they'll go through with their weddings, with or without their family members' blessings.
Tonight's two-hour-long season premiere will introduce fans to the three couples. Chris and Lou are a same-sex couple from Boston hoping to gain the approval of Chris' parents; Adam and Briana are an interracial couple from Houston who have to deal with Briana's sister's disapproval; and Eugene and Samantha are an interfaith couple from Baltimore and they face opposition from both of their families.
Chris & Lou
After meeting while working together as flight attendants, Chris decided to take their relationship to the next step by proposing to Lou during a romantic vacation in Hawaii. The couple has support from Lou's mother, but Chris' parents have yet to accept their upcoming union. "Who wants to have your son walk down the aisle with a man? I don't," Chris' mother told the cameras. "I won't accept it," Chris' father said in his on-camera interview. "I don't want any part of it. Marriage is between a man and a woman."
Eugene proposed to Samantha after being together a little more than a year, and together they share a 3-month-old son named Nathan. Eugene was raised in a Jewish household and Samantha was raised Christian, but the couple compromised and they raise little Nathan in a multi-faith home. Eugene's brother and mother are upset that he's marrying outside of the Jewish faith, but Eugene is prepared to choose his fiancée over his family. "If you're not going to be here on the most important day of my life," Eugene told his brother, "just have a backup plan for a brother for the rest of your life."
Adam & Briana
One year after an online dating misconnection, Adam and Briana met by chance at a restaurant. The chemistry between the couple was undeniable, and they were engaged six months later. But the interracial couple has faced backlash, both from complete strangers and their own families. Adam's father doesn't approve of Briana, and Briana's family and sister don't approve of Adam. When the couple sat down with Briana's family to announce their engagement, Briana's sister was the first to oppose. "I don't like him because he's white," Briana's sister told cameras. "Be with your own."
