Australia Women suffered a six-wicket loss to New Zealand Women at Nagpur on Monday. All rounder Ellyse Perry's brave 48-ball 42 run knock guided the Southern Stars to a modest 103 for eight in twenty overs. The White Ferns comfortably chased down the target with six wickets and 22 balls to spare.
"We are disappointed with our game yesterday. We are not panicking. Every game is a must win from now," Aussie skipper Meg Lanning said on Tuesday. "They are improving every day. They have got some really good spin options. Batting wise also they are improving all the time," she replied when asked about Sri Lankan opponents.
Sri Lankan ladies, who suffered a massive loss to Group A topper New Zealand in their opening game, bounced back in the tournament with a 14-run victory over struggling Ireland Women at Mohali on Sunday. The Chamari Atapattu-led side scored 129 for seven after electing to bat and then restricted Irish batters to 115 for eight in twenty overs, recording their first win of ICC World Twenty20 2016.
Skipper Chamari Atapattu, who scored a valuable 34, praised her team for its improved performance against Ireland. "It was a good win. I played my natural game. We had targeted a total of around 140 but could not get that. However it all worked out in the end," she said.
