The Weeknd Drops Out Of Rihanna’s European ‘ANTI’ World Tour

All of Rihanna’s fans in Europe who were hoping to catch The Weeknd perform will be sadly disappointed, as the r&b crooner will no longer be joining the “Work” singer for the European leg of her “ANTI” world tour.

"Due to some unforeseen changes with upcoming projects, The Weeknd will no longer be joining Rihanna on her upcoming international Anti World Tour," concert promoter Live Nation said in a statement Wednesday morning.

While neither Rihanna nor The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, have commented on the matter yet, the cancellation is reportedly due to the “Can’t Feel My Face” singer working on his next album.

"[Abel] has hit a stride on his new album and decided not to interrupt the process,” a source said.

While European concertgoers will not get to see hits like “Earned It” and “The Hills” performed live, Rihanna’s other opening act, Big Sean, will still join the singer for the two-month portion of the tour. The North American leg of the “ANTI” tour has been underway for about a month now with rapper Travis Scott opening up for the Barbadian singer.

Rihanna’s tour has already made headlines in the U.S. thanks to a steamy dance session with Drake during a concert stop in Miami. The rapper joined the singer onstage to perform their latest hit single together, “Work,” which is currently dominating the Billboard charts at No. 1 and has been streamed more than 34 million times and has sold more than 97,000 digital copies.

Rihanna’s world tour is in support of her latest album, which is also called “ANTI.” After being released eight weeks ago, “ANTI” once again found its way back to the top of the charts this week and landed the No. 1 spot. The album had previously peaked at the top spot in its second week of release, which made it the first Rihanna album to be at No. 1 for more than a single week. “ANTI” has now sold close to 300,000 copies.

Rihanna’s tour is scheduled to go across the pond on June 17 in Amsterdam and will go through Aug. 16 when the tour concludes in Berlin.
