A major part of "The Division" experience has been farming for loot. Players spend hours on end trying to find that perfect piece of loot, just to repeat the process when the gear becomes outdated.
Loot caves are usually the most popular way to do this, but they're also the most susceptible to patches and hot fixes. With loot caves out of the running, players have to fall back on a more inventive measure: glitching.
This glitch is a mixed blessing due to where it's located: the General Assembly mission. As you may remember, the General Assembly mission is the final story mission in "The Division," requiring players to shoot their way through the LMB and hack some turrets in order to reach the titular General Assembly within the U.N. building. The mission reaches its climax when the player is required to take down Lt. Col. Charles Bliss in a chopper to see its completion. On one hand, enemies will drop plenty of purples, allowing players to quickly upgrade their gear. But on the other hand, getting to that part may take long for some.
Well, it used to be that way at least. YouTuber Simply Jay has shared a shortcut allowing players to skip over large chunks of the mission without even technically starting it by not picking up the bomb from the JTF at the start of the mission.
The crux of the shortcut is the utilization of the skill "Mobile Cover" when used with the "Extension" mod. Under normal circumstances the skill grants you cover when there is nothing else there. However, in a meta that frequently sees the use of abilities like "Turret" and "Support Station," "Mobile Cover" makes its mark due to its prime glitching potential.
Using the skill against fences or barriers allows players to magically slide through walls, and this is precisely what Simply Jay did to bypass the courtyard and enter the U.N. building. Once inside, all you have to do is activate the echo to trigger a checkpoint and move on to the first boss fight against NPC's Raptor and Domino, who drop three purple items each. From there it's up to you, really. You have the option of continuing on to the main boss who drops four purple items or kill yourself after collecting the loot to repeat the process.
This all begs the question of whether this is actually quicker than simply going through the mission legit. Some note that they can complete the mission faster without the glitch due to the cooldown on the "Mobile Cover" skill. There isn't much reason to doubt such claims, but then again, glitches like these are most useful for those incapable of efficiently handling some part of the mission. Quite simply, it represents an easy way for less-geared or skilled players to get loot. If you don't need it, then don't use it.
It's worth giving it a try at least, especially if its a daily mission. Do note that this is a glitch however, so user beware.
