DayZ, an Internet sensation fan-modded video game that puts you in an open world that is plagued by zombies and dares you to survive, is now available through Early Access on Steam.
According to IGN, DayZ was originally released last year as a mod for the realistic military shooter and simulator, "Arma 2." The mod attracted a lot of attention online but was difficult for the average gamer to obtain. On top of the game's difficulty to find and use, it was plagued by rampant glitches that frequently stalled your performance and made some sessions of the game almost impossible to play, ruining the immersion for many people.
Despite its issues, the stand alone version of the game was meant to alleviate some of those problems, but for now, a warning on DayZ's Steam Page makes it clear that the game is still not running perfectly in its current form and all users should be aware of that before spending money on the game.
"Please do not purchase it unless you want to actively support development of the game and are prepared to handle with serious issues and possible interruptions of game functioning."
Despite the warning, DayZ Standalone has managed to get 88,000 players to download it from Steam in just 12 hours following its release, according to the developer's Twitter.
The game allows users to move throughout the virtual world in real time, with the sun actually rising and setting in game. However, this is not your typically zombie shooter, the game actually has a lot of stealth and scavenging elements built in to ensure that gamers are getting the "survival" experience from the post-apocalyptic world.
If the PC version of the game is successful enough, the mod might just find its way to regular consoles with a full-fledged release, at least that's what the game's creator Dean Hall said in a recent interview.
