Warner Bros. has revealed its plans to make an announcement regarding its Batman: Arkham game franchise on New Year's Eve.
According to a post made on the franchise's Facebook wall, a "special announcement will be made on Dec. 31. As for what it pertains to, the post was very non-specific.
"Visit this page on December 31st for a special announcement...more details to come next week!" the post reads, along with the accompanying picture, seen above.
It's possible that this could refer to a number of different things, but the most likely candidate is a new narrative DLC content pack focused on the story mode from the newest game "Batman: Arkham Origins." This new DLC has been teased for quite some time, with several winks in the game hinting at something different on its way. However, there's also speculation that the developers could forego the DLC process entirely and be gearing up to reveal a brand new Arkham title for next-gen consoles the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. However, IGN notes that this would be an odd time to reveal a new game as no one would be around to give the announcement the proper attention that it deserves - given the mad rush of the holidays and New Years.
Strung throughout the year have been minor references and hints at a new game including an off-handed comment made by voice actor Kevin Conroy earlier this year in which he let it slip that he had been working on a new installment in the Arkham game series. There was also a job posting on Rocksteady's website for someone to help develop a title that looks shockingly similar to the kind of thing the Arkham games have done in the past.
As for in-game references, there have been many hints at the DC villain group the Suicide Squad found throughout the previous three titles. Could this DLC or new game focus on the Suicide Squad.
