Many expected an expansion to the story mode from "Batman: Arkham Origins" to come out this month. Unfortunately for fans of the campaign, the developers had something a little different in mind. On Monday, a new multiplayer game mode called "Hunter, Hunted" hit PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
According to IGN, the game mode offers a twist on the traditional "Last Man Standing" game type. It is a 3v3v1 game mode that places three Bane thugs, three Joker thugs and Batman in an arena before challenging them to duke it out. There are no respawns enabled so the one who comes out on top of the fray is the ultimate winner.
Many were expecting "Batman: Arkham Origins" to receive a story DLC this month as a result of an interview Ames Kirshen, the vice president of WB Games, did with DC All Access. In the interview he mentioned that players will soon be playing the Initiation DLC, which is a "new kind of challenge map pack that's got a little bit of a narrative to it." It will chronicle a young Bruce Wayne's trials and tribulations at a monastery full of ninja, according to IGN.
"Hunter, Hunted" being released does not necessarily mean that it is replacing a new story mode DLC. In fact, it's entirely possible that the new multiplayer game type can be thought of as a bonus before a bigger launch of new downloadable content.
"Batman: Arkham Origins" has been positively reviewed for the most part. It has the unfortunate goal of having to top its predecessors, which have been hailed as some of the best Batman games in history. While Origins is a good game, receiving a 7.8 on IGN, it has failed to live up to its predecessors.
"Batman games are like pizza: even when they're not very good, they're still pretty good. Next to Arkham City, Arkham Origins is a bit of a disappointment in its lack of new ideas and use of win buttons, making it the least interesting of the trilogy. But as excuses to dive back into the excellent free-flowing combat and predator takedowns go, this story isn't bad," the site's review reads.
